We have yet another new addition to our family...Amos Duncan. He is a Miniature Hereford bull. Stephen and I have really enjoyed learning about the "miniatures" and "low lines" and the Lord directed us to this little guy. He was born on our anniversary date, March 13. This past March, he turned 1, so he is just a yearling and may not be "ready" for a few more months. Just a little history behind his name...growing up, my family had an old time favorite movie, "The Night of The Grizzly" and on there was a huge Hereford bull whose name was Duncan. I thought if we (Stephen and I) ever got a Hereford bull, we should name him Duncan. His registered name is Amos, but to us, he is Amos Duncan.
On our way to get Amos Duncan in Bay City, we stopped off at the Bellville Meat Market. They have some awesome jalapeno cheese sausage. We bought a stick and made sandwiches with it for lunch. It was so good! Mrs. Herzog (the kids all call her "Mo") came along with us. It was so nice to have her along. It was a long day (31/2 hrs one way) but we took it easy and had a great time.
Stephen is so excited! The kids seemed more interested in playing in the manure pile and on the lawn mower, than in getting the new bull though. Oh well. I will say that since he has been home for 2 weeks now, they have enjoyed him and like to show people their Boots and Amos Duncan and Mable.
We found a park in Bay City, so we ate our picnic lunch and had such a fun time playing on the playground. The Lord held back the rain until we were done playing, then once we got in the camper to go home, it sprinkled and got everything wet.
It was funny watching all the introductions in the pasture. Boots, Mable, and Amos Duncan have all had to establish a "pecking order" if you will. They haven't done to bad, although I think Boots will find himself spending a lot more time being tethered outside the fence ("mowing" the outside of the fence line) if he doesn't stop being an irritation to the others. Mable is due any day now, and we don't want her and her new calf to be bothered with the "always eager and ready to play", Boots.
