Putting Out Rye Grass 11-2-09

Some of the things we have been learning about for grass farming is to have a nice "salad bar" for the cows to be rotated into. We have been wanting to seed out some grasses lately and have just now had the opportunity to do so. It may be a bit late in the season, but hopefully it will still come up and be an extra source of nutrients for the cows this winter. Here are some shots of the fun family event. Oh, just for the record, we put out about 50 pounds of rye grass seed per acre, and we also limed (I forgot how much and when exactly we did that, but I do know we did it).
Getting the tractor and seeder hooked up and ready to go.
All the kids in the back of the little red truck waiting and watching.
Stephen tied all the animals and took down the fence before he got started to make it a little easier.
The kids watching as he gets ready to load the seed.

Pouring in the seed!
Stephen with the bag of the rye grass seed. We planted the regular gulf annual.
Here are the stats on the seed.
This is the info chart on the seeder telling you how may pounds per acre, how fast to drive, how open to have the area where the seeds come out and so on. Quite interesting.
There are all those tiny little seeds getting flung out.
