Mable had her calf!!! It's a little bull calf. He appears to be born early this morning (April 9, 2009). He seems to be nursing well. Mable looks great and has lots to be proud of. She has enough milk for 4 calves it looks like, so after the colostrum is gone, we will be milking away. I can't wait!! We have all been longing for our organic, raw, "Jersey Cows Milk". We will be looking into getting a nurse calf to help Mable out. Don't get me wrong, we can't wait for the milk, but we may not be able to drink 3-4 gallons a day, but probably at least 1-2 gallons. Plus we will be making butter, ice cream, and learning how to make cheeses...How fun!
